Terminator 2: Judgement day
Before:
The first Terminator movie was actually pretty good as well as being very well known in pop culture. I’m excited to see if the second movie is as good or even possibly better than the first, considering that when the first came out, it was low budget.
I hope that the movie is entertaining at least because the first one was, but its an action movie, and even without a plot, mindless action scenes are still cool.
After:
Honestly a lot better than the first movie, like I said T2 had a bigger budget (about 15 times the size of the original) and it really shows, with the massive war scene in the beginning and Sarah’s (Linda Hamilton) Recurring dream about the nuke, both being much larger scale effects that would’ve cost quite a bit more than the original movie did. It was much more than just mindless action and had some good comedy and heartwarming bits.
I watched the special edition to make sure I got every part of the story (also because the DVD I had only came with the special edition) and this was the first time I actually liked the special edition of a movie. usually when I watch the “Special Edition” of something its just a bunch of cinematic shots or scenes that didn’t really need to be there, I didn’t feel that way with T2 though. T2 had some very good scenes in the version I watched that weren’t originally in the theatrical release. I can’t say I liked all of the practical effects (you have to give them credit though, as in the 90s this was considered high tech) or even the CGI effects, It all just felt so fake. Especially the scenes where they used the good old animatronic body doubles for scenes in which people were either shot or stabbed in their faces, and no matter how much you look at that it never starts to feel normal.
I love this movie and I won’t say its bad just because of the effects. It holds up as an action movie and even just as a movie in general.
10/10
